Right - I've tried to get the video quality better - does this work?

After a lot of toiling with various different bits of free video conversion software, I've managed to convert our 4D scan video DVD into a form suitable for posting on Blogger... I think. Please let me know whether or not you can view this.

Scan pics 27 weeks

All very exciting today, we've been up to deepest, darkest North London for a 4D scan. No medical reason for this one, there was a discount offer and the opportunity to see Smidget again, coupled with some fancy technology was fairly easily sold to us!

Smidget was of course not cooperating, and despite giving me a good kicking in the waiting room, was fast asleep, wedged so as to hide it's face when we went in. As an arm and a placenta was not what we were aiming for (placentas - not very cute) we were sent off to take a little walk in the park and eat something sugary. So, after a medicinal ice cream in the sun (oh the trials I have to go through) we returned, and this time Smidget wriggled around enough for us to get some good pictures and some video. I'll put some of the pictures below, Fred is working on the video, so we'll put it up here at some point hopefully.

BTW the blobby thing on the right of the picture is the placenta and the one on the left is the wall of the uterus.

20 Week Scan!

Well this is quite an exciting week, we've reached the half way point, had our 20 week scan and this weekend will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary (crikey time flies!).

A very enthusiastic Australian chap called Tyrone was our sonographer today and for once Smidget had decided to be in a good position straight off, so we had a good look at the heart, leg bones, ribs, kidneys, etc and measurements were made of various brain structures, the head and belly. I did have to lie on my side for a bit to get Smidget to turn and give us a profile, but for the most part it was a lot more dignified than the 12 week scan. Apart from this bit:

Sonographer: "...and there's baby's bladder, it's quite full, baby needs to pee! and there's your bladder - you need to pee too hey?"

Me: "er, yes" (and you poking me with that plastic stick is not helping!)

Oh and Smidget did moon us at one point!

Anyway the main thing is that everything was normal, so that's great and it's fair to say we're getting pretty excited about it now. Apparently Smidget has very long toes, and a "sturdy" head -I assume that means a large head, any ideas where it may have go that from? Hmmm? I did instruct Smidget to inherit my head size and not Fred's but we seem to have our first bit of disobedience!

First Scan Pictures 3

13 Weeks

Well the niggles came back again just in time for a last minute panic a few hours before Fred was about to get on the eurostar for our ski trip, with me due to follow on the next morning. They had a good look and couldn't find anything at all out of the ordinary thankfully, apparently it's just one of those things and may happen again, but they were very nice and said I should just go back if it does so they can set my mind at rest. I have to say all the medical staff I've dealt with so far have been really good, well the chap who did the blood tests was a little scary, but good at taking blood!

Anyway this one is a bit clearer, head on the right, and you can see one of the legs sticking out top left. Once again Smidget was very active - two Sonograohers have now said "oh, you're not going to get much sleep once you can feel this one" - So there's something to look forward to!

The next routine scan is at 20 weeks, and much as it's lovely to see Smidget I hope I won't be seeing it again until then!

First Scan Pictures 2

11 weeks

This is the picture from the routine 12 week scan (in this case 11 weeks 5 days) it's still a bit tricky to make anything out on the still, but during the actual scan we could see lots of detail, fingers, toes, arms, legs, even the brain. You can see the head on the right and the 5 little white lines above are fingers, a fat little belly can be seen on the left.

Smidget was also very active that day and for a lot of the scan seemed to be standing on it's head waving it's legs in the air. This made it rather tricky for the sonographer to measure the things she needed to so we had to encourage it into the right position. This involved prodding me repeatedly with the ultrasound probe, right in the very full bladder, nice. When this failed I was glad to find out that the second option was emptying my bladder. However, this was not enough to coax Smidget into the right place either so there was then more prodding, coughing and some very undignified wiggling and shaking of the hips. Thankfully that did the trick, apparently the next option involved jumping up and down!

7 Weeks






Despite only being 15 weeks pregnant we're already getting a small collection of pictures.

This first one was done at only 7 weeks after a few niggly problems, the white blob top left is the head, the bigger blob to the right is the yolk sac and the little diagnal line is measuring it's length, which was 6.3mm. Despite being that tiny we could still see the heart beat on the screen which was very exciting!
